Music that sticks through the test of time has been the barometer of how I assess whether which music is worth listening to.  Recently, I've been attracted to the sounds of Japanese pop music in the 70's and 80's, which can be categorized as City Pop.  After going down the rabbit hole that is Youtube's related videos I saw someone link to one of Toro Y Moi's mixes, and I was surprised it was a mix of City Pop and the sounds of early electronic music from Japan.  There are some familiar names that come up on the tracklist like Taeko Ohnuki and Junko Ohashi, but I'm more excited when I don't know the artists in the tracklist.  City Pop is a niche genre of music that is strangely fun to listen to, and Toro Y Moi does a wonderful job giving us a small vignette of the genre.

Here's the tracklist:

Hiroshi Yoshimura (吉村弘) - Tokyo Bay Area
HIROSHI SATOH - Say Goodbye
Yume no Dobutsuen - Hiro Koichi
Mai Yamane - Tasogare
Junko Ohashi - Dancing
Taeko Ohnuki - 都会
Kaoru Akimoto - Dress Down
Taeko Ohnuki - 4-00 AM
Taeko Onuki - Carnaval
Urami Bushi - Meiko Kaji
The Notice is Notice - Masahiko Sato
Anri - Last Summer Whisper
Onna No Jumon - Mekio Kaji
Hiroshima Yoshimura - Something Blue
