Wonder Women of the Martial Arts

Women being badasses throwing fists and giving baddies a bad day

When you think of kung fu movies, the actors that come to mind are the likes of Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee, or Donnie Yen.  But what about the tough gals that also were toe-to-to, fist-to-fist with these martial arts protagonists?   From August 18 to 20, Metrograph is hosting a movie series, in partners with Subway Cinema, featuring kung fu movies with badass women throwing punches, handing out bloody noses, and fierce one-on-one standoffs with fists and the occasional wushu swords.  These films range from beating up Japanese Imperial baddies to actress Michelle Yeoh playing a hardboiled Hong Kong detective solving a murder mystery.  Grab a ticket for a movie or two and get ready to watch classic martial arts movies like Hapkido (1972) and Yes, Madam (1985).
